Offshoring: tell us your story

Offshoring.jpgDo you know someone who has lost a job and their livelihood due to the offshoring of US jobs?

Has a factory that once manufactured in America closed its doors and moved overseas due to "free trade" policies?

All over the country, jobs that could be done here by American workers are being shipped overseas.

We want to know more about this: we want to hear your story.

The more we know, the better we can advocate and represent your needs.

Do you know someone who has lost a job and their livelihood due to offshoring?

A: I was a temp at Prudential in their annuity department. I mailed out transfer and exchange paperwork along with inputting the data into the CFE system. I was a temp there for over 2 years and let go in April 2011. Part of what we did was sent to India. A co-worker informed me that on the Mon. before Thanksgiving 2011 at 10AM they were all let go as their jobs will be done in India and the contract maintenance department will mail out the paperwork.

    Q: Tell us your story
A: Started working as a quality consultant after plant closing at HP because manufacturing of CD writers offshored to Singapore. One of my gigs was working for Agilent Technologies in 2002 to help them become ISO 9000 certified. At the successful closure of that mission the employees at the Loveland site were informed the operation was being offshored to Panang Malaysia. Employees being laid off were informed that they would not receive their severence pay if they did not adequately train their Panang recipient of their old job. Comiserating with one employee this was the final for him of 14 downsizing/layoff trials he had been through. He quickly shut down my empathic response that I poured forth by letting me know a guy just over the cubical wall had been through 22 such trials. More fleece trade anyone?

A: I will not talk about the experiences of others without asking their permission. But I will not ask for their permission in any case. That is why I didn’t respond to the survey earlier. Their privacy will be respected.

    Q: Tell us your story
A: Pull up either KRDO Kimberly Rivera Press Conference or KOAA Kimberly Rivera Press Conference. The reason for me, the old journalist with a legal background, calling of the press conference was as follows: 1. great concern for safety/well being of Kimberly Rivera, the only woman who was, with her husband and then four children, deported from Canada following her and her family’s spending seven years living in Canada following her ‘going over the hill’ rather than being re-deployed to Afghanistan, and placed on guard duty and ordered again to do what she was, in good conscience, totally unable to do: kill any and all (including civilians and even children of all ages) who came within a designated of where she was going. Military officers had never advised her (as they have to do) of her right to apply for conscientious objector status. 2. upon her and her family’s deportation, she was immediately arrested following their crossing the border into the U.S., and sent to Colorado Springs for a tribunal, 3. following the tribunal, she was incarcerated in the El Paso County jail, then eight to ten weeks pregnant with child number five, 4. Kimberly’s feeling she had no other option but to enlist, while living in California with her husband and then two children, was based upon her husband’s having lost his job and being unable to find other similar employment due to so many jobs being sent overseas, and Kimberly’s being about to be fired from her very low income employment at Walmart.

National and international concern for Kimberly (i.e. with Amnesty International, etc.) re. Kimberly and her husband unable to find and or keep job(s) in the U.S., thus forcing Kimberly into having to enlist, is yet one more example of egregious results of trade agreements , such as NAFTA and the now being pushed into ‘fast tract’ TPP.
