Finance panel unanimously approves Trump's pick for Commerce trade slot

The Senate Finance Committee on Thursday unanimously voted to approve the nomination of Gilbert Kaplan for under secretary of Commerce for international trade.

Kaplan is a partner at the law firm King & Spalding, in its International Trade Group. “While at the firm, he filed and won the first ever successful United States anti-subsidy cases against China (on coated paper and standard pipe),” the White House said in announcing President Trump's intent to nominate him earlier this year.

Kaplan has also served as “Deputy Assistant Secretary and the First Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Import Administration, where he supervised over 500 trade remedy cases,” the White House said.
