Desmond & Louis, President
Lou Desmond is President of Desmond & Louis. Lou is an established media relations professional and creative strategist with decades of experience within the disciplines of government relations, consumer and investor relations, political campaigns and crisis communications.
Lou began his career as a broadcast journalist in Northern California. He worked in both television and radio news in Northern California and the Bay Area but decided it was not the career he wanted, and because of his news-oriented experience, transitioned smoothly into public relations.
Lou began his public relations career with Nelson Communications Group in Sacramento where he managed political campaigns and the account of the Economic Development Corporation of Shasta County who would remain his client for more than a decade. He later moved on to work for Porter Novelli’s Irvine office where he handled national accounts such as Dave & Buster’s Restaurants.
Lou left Porter Novelli to become the communications director for The Empire Companies, a multi-billion dollar real estate development company that was building residential, golf and commercial projects throughout the Western United States. While working there Lou met and became a familiar face to many high-ranking political players and elected officials.
Lou left Empire to start his own communications firm and that firm has been in operation for almost two decades. The firm has had as many 15 employees at any given time and dozens of clients large and small. Lou and the firm have helped many clients during that time including development companies, the Building Industry Association, myriad government agencies and internationally known brands such as Toro and Maglite but his proudest moment was probably getting the National Pet Sitter of the Year on the couch at Fox & Friends.
In 2009, Lou resumed his broadcasting career as host of The Lou Desmond & Co. Show on KMET 1490AM and ABC News Station which is heard in Inland Southern California, Monday through Friday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. when he isn’t busy on client business.
In 2019 his responsibilities with Maglite grew substantially and he now spends the vast majority of his time on the needs of Maglite, which vary from marketing programs, strategic partnerships, public relations and government relations.
Lou graduated with a double major in English Literature and Communications from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California in 1989 and earned his graduate degree in the MFA program at the University of California, in 1992. He and his wife Nicole oversee a busy home in rural Winlock, Washington with two children Eric, age 12 and Savannah, age 10, cats Bella and Rascal, dogs Marley and the new addition Emma, an 8 month old German Shepard Lab mix.Return to the Conference Page
