CPA Praises Senate Resolution on Buying American-Made Products

June 16, 2020

Washington. The Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) today praised a new Senate resolution calling on Americans to buy domestically produced goods.  The bipartisan resolution, introduced by Sens. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), urges support for U.S. manufacturers and their workers. Co-sponsors include Sens. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Tina Smith (D-MN), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Gary Peters (D-MI), and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI).

“This is a good first step and I look forward to the Senate working on bipartisan legislation to codify these sentiments,” said CPA Chair Dan DiMicco. “Buying American-made is critical to rebuilding our economy.”

CPA has long advocated policies to boost domestic U.S. manufacturing as a means to create middle-class jobs and grow the economy. CPA’s research team recently issued a report tracking the reshoring of domestic manufacturing capacity.

Said Michael Stumo, CEO of the CPA, “We’re very pleased to see Senators Rick Scott and Tammy Baldwin make such a clear appeal to the American people. Recovering from the coronavirus pandemic will require a sustained effort to get Americans back to work. One of the most effective ways to do that is to support our factories by purchasing American-made products.”

Stumo continued, “What the nation needs now is a robust industrial strategy to reshore production of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, semiconductors, and many other critical industries. And we need a massive infrastructure plan that embraces the Buy American sentiments expressed in the new Senate resolution. We hope Congress moves swiftly to support America’s manufacturers and their workers.”

CPA advocates a ‘Made in America 2030’ plan to rebuild economic and national security. Read more.
